Adopt A Fish • Loxahatchee River & Estuary
"Adopt a Fish, Adopt a School," a unique community outreach and education program, is expanding to Florida and the Loxahatchee River and estuary starting in early 2007. Through this program, we are seeking people and organizations interested in sponsoring the cost of a fish acoustic-transmitters/tags or "pingers" ($400/tag, which includes shipping and set-up costs). The tag or "pinger" is then donated to a local school or youth group so that both the sponsoring donor and students can claim and name a fish as their "own" to observe and track its daily movements on this website.
Donors can chose their own school or youth group with which to share the tag, or we can designate a school/class for the donor. This educational-outreach project is intended to integrate local scientists, students, and interested community members to form a firm foundation to conserve and manage the natural resources of the Loxahatchee River and estuary. So, why not adopt a fish? In fact, adopt a whole school! To adopt your fish, please contact Dr. Craig Layman directly. Donations of $250 or more (such as for a single tag) are tax deductible through PERC-Preservation, Environment, Restoration, Community, a 501©(3) organization. Dr. Craig Layman
